War film 2: Platoon (1986)
In 1986 Oliver Stone was at last able to turn his Vietnam experiences into a film - Platoon. The first in what would become his 'Vietnam trilogy', it starred Charlie Sheen, Willem Defoe and Tom Berenger, and went on to be nominated for eight Oscars, winning four. ReplyDeleteI just want to say that this review makes me want to see the film. I think that Platoon has the sort of popularly-acclaimed, popularly-lampooned baggage in America that Lawrence of Arabia seems to have in the UK - so unfortunately I've never taken the time to see it. Thanks to the podcast, now I know how much I've been missing out on a great story!
